To haters talking trash abt Somi:
Somi went on a long live today, and for the first time in her 7-year solo career, she finally addressed the endless malicious comments surrounding her. She always held it in, but she realized she couldn't stay silent anymore after seeing her family and young sisters turned into cheap gossip.
She NEVER said to starve or crash diet. She was literally just talking about how to quit ^SNACKING^. Somi loves cooking and is an idol who enjoys food more than anyone. She even said this at the same clip👇🏻
recap of somi's bubble live (everything i can remember, not verbatim!)
- about the video that went viral over the past few days:
she IS healthy, she is not sick and does not have an eating disorder. somi said she has always tried to maintain a healthy diet, but she also loves snacks, and that's what she struggles to control the most when she's on a diet. she pointed out how easy it is for people to take a 10-second clip and claim she's sick or promoting unhealthy habits to young people, which is something she would never do. she loves food, she loves cooking. she just tries to remember herself not to snack all the time. during the live she talked about going out to eat in hong kong (ioi concert). she also mentioned foods from other countries and said she loves brazilian steak. somi always tried to be healthy, she works out a lot, she is always in movement and exercising, so she needs to also eat healthy to maintain a good balance with proper meals.
- about people using an old screenshot from her instagram story:
everyone knows she is half korean and half white, but many people forget that she was raised in korea and is used to korean culture and expressions. when she used the word 'hot' to describe her father, it came from a place of admiration for how handsome he looked when he was younger and nothing more than that. it was a compliment. she explained that her father has always worked hard to maintain himself through exercise, working out, and staying healthy. she said there was never any inappropriate meaning behind her words. once she realized the word she used could be interpreted differently in other cultures and carried a stronger meaning than she intended, she stopped using it. she also mentioned how frustrating it is that this was something from years ago, yet every time people want to attack her, they bring up that same screenshot to paint her as weird and make inappropriate comments about her and her family. she said she and her parents have always been close, often film content together, and have a great relationship. there is nothing strange about that. everyone who watches videos of them together can see she's just their little girl.
- about her never speaking up before:
somi said she has been a solo artist for seven years, but her story goes far beyond that. before ioi, before sixteen. when she was in school, she was bullied and never stood up for herself because she felt like she couldn't. now, things are different. she can stand up for herself. she has a career, friends, fans, and a life she is proud of. she is healthy and happy. she loves her life. she said she no longer feels the need to silently accept people saying awful things about her when they know nothing about who she really is. the people who constantly talk about her do not know somi as a person. somi always tries to learn from constructive criticism and she has always tried to educate her younger sister about the world as she grows up.
- a message directed at haters:
somi also addressed the impact hateful comments can have on someone. she asked people to think about what would happen if, after receiving all this hate, she decided she couldn't take it anymore and she was done with the world. the same people who leave hateful comments would later turn around and blame "haters" in general, when in reality they were part of the problem themselves. she said that toxic behavior from people online is what makes the k-pop industry toxic, not them.
