Seattle has recently sighted a Raccoon that frequents the local parks with Short Spine Syndrome (SSS).
The locals have endearingly nicknamed him, "Jimothy".
What is Short Spine Syndrome? 🧬
Short Spine Syndrome is an extremely rare congenital condition, meaning animals are born with it.
It causes the spine to develop much shorter than normal, giving affected animals their unique appearance.
Every case is different. While some face mobility challenges, others can live happy, active lives with proper care.
We hope to help more people discover and learn about this incredibly rare condition. ❤️
🧵 Short Spine Syndrome is one of the rarest congenital conditions found in animals.
Most people only discovered it because of the viral raccoon Jimothy.
But Jimothy isn't the first documented animal with Short Spine Syndrome.
The condition has also been observed in dogs, cats, and a handful of other animals over the years, but documented cases are extremely rare.
Thats what makes it so special.
@godspeed_aflame Funnily enough, Short Spine Syndrome is a congenital defect where, while looking horrifically painful, genuinely doesn't have many adverse effects health-wise.
