If you have ever eaten out in Europe, and your waiter disappears for 30+ mins, gets your order completely wrong, or clearly doesn’t want to be there…you appreciate the American tipping system. One secret is that at any restaurant that is mid-level and above, the waitstaff is crushing it because of their untaxed (up to 25k) tips!

Servers earning a “living wage” in Europe, rarely make more than 30k a year. So anybody complaining that the US tipping system is unfair, is just cheap or uninformed.

HOWEVER…what is criminal about that sign, is that service charges ARE tips, and the house is taking that money out of the hands of the waitstaff. I agree with the OP, I would never eat there.
