i genuinely don’t understand how so many people are still missing the point entirely. this isn’t about whether you can afford it, whether i can afford it, tbh affordability on an individual level is irrelevant here

the membership is symbolically important because it controls access to specific opportunities and interactions. not fandom itself, but applications for events, pre-listening parties, and direct interaction with the members through the app. for fans who can’t afford vip tickets or multiple concerts, that space is often the only realistic way to feel seen or acknowledged. it’s a way to connect with the members that promotes a sense of belonging.

and that kind of access shouldn’t be treated like a luxury upsell. the barrier to it should stay as low as possible so fans from different backgrounds have a fair shot at participating, especially when for kstays you can’t even apply for events without a membership.

accepting a 50%+ price increase on something this foundational isn’t neutral!! it signals that it’s fine to push basic access mechanisms behind a higher paywall. once that happens, it sets a precedent, and the costs don’t stop there.

that should worry anyone who cares about the long-term health of the fandom. you can only push so much without getting pushback, and fans are rightfully getting tired. this isn’t the fault of skz, but ultimately they’ll suffer the consequences…
