After posting a pair of MIAA shutout victories at home, the @NWBearcatSOC program is reaping the benefits by having two players named as the league's players of the week.
Junior Makenna West captured MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Senior Lily Ellis tallied MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week status. It is the seventh time in Ellis's Bearcat career she has earned MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week accolades.
West recorded a pair of game-winning goals in leading Northwest to a 2-0 week with shutout wins over Central Oklahoma and Newman. West netted the only goal of the day at the 13:18 mark of the first half against Central Oklahoma. It was her second goal of the season. West scored the first of Northwest's three goals at the 24:46 mark of the first half vs. Newman. It was West's third goal of the year.
Ellis posted back-to-back shutouts to push her career shutout total to 32. Ellis has posted five shutouts this season. Against UCO, Ellis faced 19 shots and tallied 12 saves in posting a clean sheet. Ellis came back Sunday and faed five shots with three saves in the 3-0 triumph over the Jets. Ellis has generated three consecutive shutouts to begin league play and it has lifted the Bearcats to first place in the MIAA standings with a 3-0 mark.
The No. 24-ranked Bearcatsย (6-2 overall, 3-0 MIAA) will travel to No. 9-ranked Central Missouri Friday for a 7 p.m. match, followed by a Sunday game at 1 p.m. at Rogers State.
