I did a quick test to compare various models for translations and results surprised me somehow 🤔

Opus is a winner - no surprise as I've always preferred Opus for anything text-related.

GPT is close-ish behind, but 2x slower and more expensive.

The surprise? Sonnet with reasoning - 2x more expensive than Opus, with the same not great quality as dumb Sonnet.

Everything else is hilariously unacceptable for translations in my case.

So at least in my case - Opus medium reasoning is best overall, Sonnet NO reasoning is 30% of the cost, for 80% quality.

Note: It's non-scientific, and done for my own purposes. System prompt is 35k characters with strong language guidance to get the best results.

@james406 I love using Posthog, but unfortunately PH-AI in it's current form is ok-ish on basic things that I can do much faster manually. I like the proactive monitoring angle, but man, please, just don't force it into headless blackbox that does things on it's own.

@marcinbunsch Explicit handling is the pain - it's like making functions async - everything now needs to handle it. I'm much more happy with well defined error boundaries plus a set of dedicated error classes

It's actually astounding, that every time I plan to use a feature that is on the higher Google Workspace plan, it's basically useless. AI, e-signatures, meeting notes, meet noise canceling. I don't know what I'm paying for 🤷‍♂️
