@clmarohn The near disappearance of agriculture as a contributor to French national wealth saddens me nearly as much as the destruction of WW1. The French countryside used to be as productive as it is beautiful, but evidently no more.
@MayorOfTelAviv@mattyglesias 1) thank you for a beautiful gesture of gratitude
2) a bit disappointed that the city hall of Israel’s largest city doesn’t have more distinctive design
@bellachu10 Unless engineers are willing to slow vehicle traffic way down at freeway crossings, I think safely routing bike & pedestrian paths across freeway on/off ramps requires grade separation, either a bridge over or tunnel under the ramps.
@vkaramurza@Kasparov63 Could a man of compassion & integrity rise to lead the Kremlin? Where in Russia does an ethic of integrity & compassion prevail over “ends justify the means”?
@streetsforall@isaacgbryan@GavinNewsom Let local jurisdictions decide how to enforce fare payment. Why would we want to remove consequences for hopping onto public buses & trains without paying the fare? What do you think that will incentivize?
@cyclesixmile Many North American drivers assume that any & all trailer towing requires a pickup truck or big van when in fact many passenger cars can be fitted with a sturdy enough hitch to tow a U-Haul box or bed trailer!
@Scott_Wiener Decriminalizing hallucinogens is a step too far for a governor who anticipates running for POTUS in 2028. California might be ready for ‘shrooms but many other states are not.
@Nerd4Cities All vehicles with four forward swinging doors and adult sized back seats should be regulated as passenger vehicles. A crew cab pickup is an SUV is a sedan. Same fuel economy and collision safety standards across the board.
@clmarohn Having listened to your appearance on the “Lit with Charles” podcast, I’d offer that Jane Jacobs did not foresee & would have objected to NIMBYism & gentrification, two phenomena that have transformed SoHo while preserving it superficially.
@StrongTowns When a large & broadly representative segment of the town’s population participates in learning the issues and making decisions that shape the future, the town can become strong.
@kairyssdal I think that for raising more revenue, “closing tax loopholes” would be an easier sell to the voting public than “hiking tax rates”, but perhaps resistance to true tax reform & collection enforcement is strongest behind the scenes.
