In 2007, Yar'Adua, a Fulani man, was President until he died in May 2010.
Namadi Sambo, a Fulani man, became VP from 2010 to 2015.
Buhari, a Fulani man, became President from 2015 to 2023.
Shettima, a Fulani man, became VP from 2023 to present.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Brings Explosive Joy to AbaSamuel Prison with Landmark Repatriation Deal

In a scene filled with unbridled emotion, Nigerian nationals incarcerated at AbaSamuel Prison in Ethiopia erupted in joy as they received news of a groundbreaking bilateral agreement that will allow them to complete their sentences back home.

The atmosphere was electric, marked by renewed happiness and hope among the inmates, many of whom have been serving terms far from family and familiar surroundings. The development stems from a Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreement signed between Nigeria and Ethiopia, paving the way for the repatriation of more than 100 Nigerian prisoners currently held in Ethiopian facilities, primarily AbaSamuel and Kaliti Prisons.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, personally delivered the uplifting message during a visit to AbaSamuel Prison. Accompanied by Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, she described the inmates’ reaction as “pure unaltered joy at the prospects of returning to their homeland.”

The agreement, signed in Addis Ababa by Fagbemi on Nigeria’s behalf and Ethiopia’s Minister of Justice Hanna Arayaselassie on the other side, facilitates the transfer of convicted persons to serve the remainder of their sentences in their home countries. It emphasizes humanitarian considerations, family support, and better prospects for rehabilitation and reintegration.

“Under the Citizen Diplomacy imperative of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to the welfare and protection of Nigerian citizens abroad,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu stated. She highlighted that the pact reflects a shared commitment to justice and humanity between the two nations.
