🇺🇸 Former Stray Cat Fatally Shot in Pennsylvania; Community Raises Reward to $600

On September 14, 2026, a rescue cat named Preeka was fatally shot in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania. Preeka had once lived as a stray before being rescued and welcomed into a family. She was vaccinated, microchipped, and had a home where she was loved and cared for.

At approximately 1 p.m., a home security camera recorded Preeka returning to her family’s house with a severe gunshot wound. Despite her injuries, she managed to make her way home. Her owners immediately took her to an emergency veterinary clinic, but the injury was so serious that she had to be euthanized.

Humane Society Police Officer Mark Rusnak of the Centre County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting as aggravated animal cruelty. Investigators are reviewing security-camera footage, working to determine where Preeka was shot, and examining evidence to identify the weapon used. A projectile remained inside her body and was expected to be recovered for examination.

The search for information extends to residential streets around Bilger Avenue, Middle Street, Main Street, Whitman Circle, Markle Street, Locust Street, and Jodon Avenue. Residents have been asked to review footage from their outdoor security cameras and report any relevant activity or sounds that may help investigators establish what happened.

The reward for information began at $250, as shown on the family’s original appeal. Members of the local community subsequently contributed additional money, raising the reward to $600. The reward is intended for verified information that leads to the identification, arrest, and formal charging of the person responsible.

Preeka had already been given a second chance at life when she was rescued from the streets. Her family is now seeking answers about the shooting that ended her life, while investigators continue asking the community for assistance.
