Why are there still so many novels in which the heroine is framed as “cool” because she hates skirts, sewing and cooking? When are we as a society breaking free of this internalised misogyny that makes us frame all traditionally feminine skills and interests as inferior?

@vincentscarpa Ruth Ozeki’s “Book of Form and Emptiness”’ main character spends some time in a psych ward, and the novel plays with whether someone who “hears voices” is mad, holy, or both. Also a very Buddhist novel, which I found fascinating.

When I’m trying to make casual conversation with someone and ask if they’re reading anything good lately and they say “oh yeah, I mean I only read non-fiction,” so I’m thinking cool, they’re reading some history or popular science - and no, it’s always ALWAYS these.
