50 years ago today, my father’s mother, Mrs. Alberta King (my Big Mamma, from whom I get my middle name), was gunned down while playing “The Lord’s Prayer” at Ebenezer Baptist Church. It was the second time our family was devastated and disrupted by gun violence.

Resolved to move forward without hate and bitterness, we anchored ourselves in love and forgiveness. Big Mamma and Grandaddy taught us through their example how to persevere with faith and dignity in the face of tragedy.

Big Mamma was a pillar of strength whose unwavering commitment to the way of Christ provided hope and guidance to my father and uncle during their lifetimes, to my aunt, and to us, her 11 grandchildren.

She not only loved directing the choir and playing the great hymns, Negro spirituals, and gospel music, but also wrote her own melodies, which brought joy to the souls of many.

Rest in peace, Big Mamma. The music and the memories live on in our hearts.

It worries me that people are using ChatGPT to write emails and essays. Hard to think of anything more dangerous than letting our creative and mental powers, the things that make us human, atrophy from disuse. When you create anything, what you’re really creating is yourself.

@paddygrant My great uncle was captured at Dunkirk. As a POW he was forced to March across Eastern Europe in horrific winter conditions. He rarely spoke about it after he came home.

@jonlis1 The obvious thing to do would be to dial into the interview from Normandy after the event - "Sorry I can't be with you in person but D-Day's a big deal". I just can't see how anyone - Sunak, the campaign team, ITV - thought this would be a good idea.

@jonlis1 I can't wrap my head around the booking of the ITV interview. Everyone knew about the D-Day event, surely the assumption would be that Sunak would be there alongside the other world leaders? ITV either knew he'd be free in advance or someone booked him without thinking of D-Day.
