This rabbit hole is insanely deep. As a veteran journalist and war correspondent with 15 years of experience, I am meticulous about separating fact from rumor. I was initially skeptical of the sensational third-party testimony found in the Epstein files, but I’ve discovered independent corroboration.

The document is an FBI report from James Hatt, a British barrister active in Eastern Europe in the 90s. He claims Robert Maxwell’s children inherited their father’s Soviet elite connections, specifically doing business with the legendary Grigory Luchansky.

Luchansky is a figure of myth. Time (1997) called him the "most pernicious unindicted criminal in the world." Legends claim he gained wealth faster than anyone in Europe, paid $150,000 to meet Clinton to "resolve" Ukraine’s nuclear status, and managed the "Gold of the Party."

Factually, his firm, Nordex, executed multibillion-dollar post-Soviet deals and was blacklisted by the State Department as a national security threat linked to dual-use technology smuggling.

Hatt’s testimony suggests Epstein was a financial operator for the Nordex/Maxwell network, laundering funds during 90s privatization. Catherine Belton (Putin’s People) similarly notes Trump’s brand served as a functional asset for KGB "active reserves" to legitimize "dirty" money.

Hatt further alleges Ghislaine Maxwell procured young people—including Ukrainian girls for a Russian General Ivanov—and personally offered to "arrange" anyone he wanted, boys or girls.

As I have already mentioned, this seemed too sensational and overly ambitious to me, which is why I was skeptical of James Hatt’s testimony. However, I managed to track down independent evidence—from a completely different era and context, written even before Epstein’s first arrest.

These are the memoirs of Leonid Sumarokov, a prominent Soviet functionary in the fields of science and economics, published back in 2005. Sumarokov, in particular, was sent to study in London during the height of the Soviet era, which implies he was closely tied to the KGB. Moreover, his father-in-law was none other than Mikhail Suslov. To put this into perspective, Suslov was the 'Grey Cardinal' of the Soviet Union—the Chief Ideologue of the Communist Party and one of the most powerful figures in the Politburo for decades.

And here is what we learn from Sumarokov’s memoirs. First, that Robert Maxwell had access to the highest Soviet offices; he could visit Gorbachev with ease, and some Soviet ministers would practically 'stand at attention' before him. Second, yes, Maxwell's children indeed inherited their father's connections and maintained business relations with Grigory Luchansky. Furthermore, Sumarokov mentions Ognyan Doynov, a former Bulgarian Politburo member and Maxwell’s associate, whom James Hatt also identified.

Most interestingly, Sumarokov quotes Vladimir Kryuchkov, who remarked: 'I think the business with Maxwell is not over yet.' To understand the weight of this: Kryuchkov was the Chairman of the KGB (1988–1991) and the mastermind behind the attempted 1991 coup. He was the man who oversaw the creation of the KGB's 'active reserves' and the siphoning of Party funds into offshore networks like Nordex. His comment implies that Maxwell's network was designed to outlive the USSR. He certainly knew what he was talking about.

No one knows how life is weighed in seconds, then reduced to a choice: to die alone… or to die with those you love. What heart can bear a call that lets you choose the manner of your death and the pain of parting? What strength, what courage, what selflessness must one possess just to remain standing in such a moment?

Before Ahmad, another young man was driving with his wife beside him. He received the same call. He stopped the car. He helped his wife out. He moved her away. Then he drove on alone, toward the missile.

These are scenes that repeat themselves in the South [of Lebanon]. A phone call that separates life from death. Young men walking toward their deaths with steady steps.

I cannot help but ask: Where is our government in all this? Where is the state that claims diplomacy will protect our youth? What is it doing to stop this?

Every crime committed against these young people, day after day, reinforces one truth: the legitimacy of resistance as the only option, after all other paths have been closed.

How cruel this era is… and how clear its positions.

I hesitated before writing. I wondered whether words could matter in the face of such horror. I asked myself: is this surrender or a deeper plunge into grief we cannot ward off? Then I realized that our voices, our words, may be a form of steadfastness in the face of the Israeli killing machine.
