because of this, GA has suffered from a governor who started his career ensuring he'd win bc as sec of state his office counted votes; has led this state to more deaths from covid-19, spent months suing atlanta's mayor for putting restrictions in place that would have saved lives

gerrymandering is also responsible for many state elections that have gone awry in the past decade. notably, one that happened in my state, georgia. our gubernatorial race was decided by gerrymandered maps along with voting machines that just "didnt work" on election day

but equally importantly, the past 5 congressional elections have been determined by state leaders who gerrymandered district maps in 2010. we can prevent this from happening again, but it means ALL OF US have to vote and understand that our votes matter now more than ever.

it is IMPERATIVE that we educate ourselves and vote on every level of the ballot for leaders who will ensure that district lines are drawn fairly. 2010's leaders were responsible for gerrymandering key states that would have been the difference in the 2016 presidential election

but what you may not know about the US Census is that it determines how our votes get counted for the next DECADE. that means that for the next 10 years, the district lines drawn by state leaders in 2021 will determine how fairly our votes are counted.

we just had the Census this year, which is incredibly important because it helps determine where voters are and helps allocate hundreds of billions of dollars of federal funds into communities for all sorts of things like schools, roads, other important community programs, etc
