Today I gave a lecture on probability theory in my first ever course as a college professor. I am a cognitive scientist, not a statistician, and I teach research methods. It was only thanks to taking @stat110 with Joe Blitzstein that I ever understood probability!
The folks at @ISBA_events tell me my book Statistical Rethinking has won the 2024 DeGroot Prize for its contributions to "statistical inference, decision theory and statistical applications". This is huge honor especially given the previous winners, who have influenced me so much

@matt_blackwell But all models are fiction. :) Measurements are discrete, but some concepts (temperatures, heights) are more intuitive to model as continuous, no?
