@DrStephCraig Then I'd focus on those learning outcomes. I'd explain the format of the exam and my general grading approach.

Each class and exam is so different, I have come to believe it's fair for students to want to understand how they are being evaluated.

- What you should be able to do/figure out with resources and 15 minutes
- What you should be familiar enough to know exists, why it matters, and why it's interesting

@dM01997 @GBBranstetter I feel that you may be confusing gender and attraction with sexual intercourse. Mentioning that families can look many ways isn't pornographic. Reading books where kids have crushes on other kids of the same sex is not more scandalous than the Babysitters Club.
