this is what everyone who knew anything about drug policy predicted. we've already tried lengthy mandatory minimums to deter sales. it didn't work when we said the sentences were for selling; why would it suddenly work when we change the name of the crime to murder?
a corporate cartel is deeply price gouging New Jersey consumers+patients on regulated cannabis
politicians should be watchdogs for such greed, not partners to it
Imagine believing that allowing legal cannabis to move from areas of over supply to areas of unmet demand would help stabilize markets.
Turns out you don’t have to be Adam Smith to understand basic economics. 😉
Another big end-of-session development… the Cannabis Crop Rescue Act has been amended to give growers a much needed outlet for their 2022 harvest.
Growers would authorized to sell to licensed tribal dispensaries.

@_Marc_Hauser_ This is great news for cannabis consumers and patients. First in states that maintain stricter testing standards, but ultimately everywhere, as they will be able to trust cannabis from those states. Also good for growers in those states, and for conscientious growers everywhere.

Yes also this! It surprised me to learn that in RI, law enforcement were huge advocates for the development of our med dispensary model because they felt that med laws without dispensaries made enforcement of laws difficult & was a significant public safety risk.
@StonardPeter No federal legislation. That’s been the point all along - not to depend on Congress. We simply need an indication from DOJ (in the guidance that Garland says is coming) that they will not prosecute people operating under state regulation. That’ll allow states to move forward.
@BryanFields24 We are far, far closer to opening interstate markets - and starting to fix the economics of legal cannabis, than almost anyone realizes. We’ll have commerce happening in ‘24.

@victorialitman “We’ve set up an over-regulated, tax-disadvantaged industry forced to run on a supply chain in direct contravention to the laws of supply and demand. You’ll compete against each other AND a parallel industry selling better cheaper products unregulated and untaxed. Have fun kids!”
