i actually hate losses like this so much more than getting stomped, cuz like i literally am playing better than everyone in this lobby 85% of the time,,,
(esp in ow)
The issue doesn't fall on ALL grassroots orgs.
Yes there is a business model flaw amongst a select few up and coming orgs... and yes I agree- paying livable wages or individual salaries to players that are not even yet capable of competing at the top levels is dishonest to competitive integrity, and is incredibly bad for the overall health and economy of the scene. However it's ultimately down to the individual accepting the offer - and yeah can't really hate on anyone trying to make a buck.
We can gripe about orgs making bad choices but let's not twist it...
The real issues stem from:
- the disconnect between OWCS and FACEIT and how Org representation is used (Partner teams run their team spaces, non-partnered and Faceit are player lead)
- the overall prize pool allocation creates no ROI opportunities for any org
- NO Official channels for broadcasting T2 talent
- NO Official Marketing for T2 (other than community driven channels and spaces)
- Lack of coaching talent across the board being developed for top level competing
- the majority of the seasoned T2 level player base expecting above market wages while also keeping 100% earnings from the prize pool.
the biggest ones being the first 3 bullet points
Investing money into the lower divisions CAN be healthy - if it's done correctly, Expert and lower participation is NECESSARY for EMEA and NA to continue to compete "for free" at the top level.
Something players ALSO have to be wiling to do is - ask yourselves, Why would an ORG invest $ in me or my team?
- expect salary, but can't stream or create content (i understand some players don't have the ability to do so)
- expect salary, but can't guarantee a high result (this isn't important to some orgs)
- expect salary, but when asked to give or participate in content - players drag their feet or choose not to
- expect salary, but don't want to promote their team space, just along for the ride
- expect salary, but the team just dissolves every season
Something has to change - within the comeptitve space, and with the mentalities of it's competitors
I want OW to succeed SOOO bad - we have to work together if we want to make it out of whatever is happening now.
I'm really interested in having deeper conversations on this from both Org ownership and player and even Faceit - what solutions are there to rid this negitive juju from our game 😡
