@MattWhitmanTMBH Some clothing stores have an anti theft dye pack on clothing that they remove with a special tool at checkout. If removed improperly, it spills dye on the item, marking it, and probably making it useless. Not suggesting the shoes were stolen, just one idea of the source of dye.
