If he bowed out quickly and gracefully (or as gracefully as could be imagined under the circumstances), he’d be depriving his apparatchik mega-fans the opportunity to turn him into a martyr and blame the establishment, the corporate media and a certain lobby and ethnic group for his downfall. So instead it’s 10 minutes about a dark, well-laid conspiracy, but he’s quitting anyway. And the apparatchiks get something to sink their teeth into. Expect more attacks on Racicot, too. She went off the record with the New York Times for reasons that should now be apparent.
This whole. Damn. Time.
"Let's not say I told you so" is an attempt to silence or dismiss those who were right when you were clearly, repeatedly, horribly wrong. And someone so wrong doesn't get to dictate terms of the discussion.
People earned the right to say they told you so.
Anyone still defending Graham
Platner at this point is supporting what we claim to despise.
Enough is enough with this guy.
Either character matters or it doesn’t. I firmly believe it does.
It must.
Or we’re no better than MAGA.
@TheSWPrincess@citizengatsby@magi_jay@NickyFrank30 I know I don't have to tell you this - but this could have all been avoided if at the first red flag we'd started a search for a suitable candidate instead of coming up with more and more excuses for this one. Chickens are roosting.
Every American should be outraged by what Trump has done to our nation's 250th birthday celebration. What should have been a once-in-a-generation moment to unite the country has been turned into another vehicle for division, propaganda, and political gain.
We uncovered how he hijacked America 250 – watch to see how.
People keep asking why I’m still talking about Graham Platner after the primary.
Democrats are being asked to ignore the lying, racism, misogyny, homophobia, antisemitic dog whistles, Nazi SS tattoo, still-active Kik account, and credible abuse allegations because “we need the Senate.”
No. We need standards.
More, and worse, WILL come out. And if it comes out after the July 13 deadline to replace him on the ballot, it could be catastrophic for Democrats.
He is barely leading Collins while Maine voters are only starting to hear about the scandals. That's not strength - it's a ticking time bomb.
And the way his supporters are dismissing women, excusing abuse, rationalizing racism and misogyny, and treating a Nazi tattoo like a quirky little oopsie is exactly why this matters.
It is never a mistake to stand up for what’s right.
As Dolly Parton said on The Orville: “If you do the right thing in the here and now, the future has a way of taking care of itself.”
We can't fight Trump and Republicans if we become just like them.
@TheSWPrincess Beautifully said. Way too many red flags here for this to end in anything but disaster. They can't tell us on one hand Swalwell should have been expelled much earlier and then usher this guy in on the other hand. Not to mention No Nazis is the lowest of the low bars.
@mkraju Why can't the media ignore these ridiculous claims like they ignore half of what trump says? Remember when he said he was going to be the prime minister of Israel and y'all said, " Aside from that last bit that can't be taken seriously..." DO THAT HERE. IGNORE THE NONSENSE.
I join you in being outraged that Spencer Pratt rigged the election to be in 2nd place on election night.
With trump causing high gas prices, grocery prices and housing prices, there is NO WAY trump puppet Pratt could have been in 2nd place in deep blue LA on election night.
@propublica Well Democrats better take that Stop the Steal catchphrase and repeat it on every podcast known to man. Otherwise it didn't happen. Which is a sad state of affairs when Joe "Just asking questions" Rogan has more influence than the solid investigative journalism of Pro Publica.
@PeterSciretta @Omniwill @FrshBakedDisney Has anybody seen ...oh idk...maybe what happens IRL? There is only a 21 year gap between "the war to end all wars" and the next world war. I don't think the SW timeline seems that impossible in comparison. And that isn't the only example, unfortunately.
@Acyn The reaction to that seemed pretty tepid compared to the lashing @gtconway3d got for (correctly) pointing out that Jennings is a liar. Jennings should be fired. He's out of control.
@atrupar The only exception I take is to the person who "wants to move on". We need more calm, facts based pushback like this on their ridiculous rhetoric. Instead of moving on, we need to stay in the exact lane they were in. This is how lies are dispelled.
