After his crash in the cyclocross race in Mol, Wout van Aert sprained his ankle and sustained a small fracture. He will undergo surgery on Saturday, after which he will focus on his recovery. Unfortunately, this means his cyclocross season is over.

“Of course I am very disappointed to have to end my cyclocross season like this,” Van Aert says. “I was feeling better and better, including today in Mol. I was really looking forward to the race in Zonhoven and the Belgian Championships. But my focus will now be on recovery and, later on, the preparation of the road season.”

We just heard a loud explosion on the Global Sumud Flotilla.

We were already on high alert, with life jackets at the ready, after a drone reportedly dropped something on to another boat.

Boats are reporting a "communications jam" interfering with their radios, although this has not been verified.

"Ciao a tutti, vi racconto una incredibile storia di basket, fatta di casualità, passione e gentilezza, che è capitata alla mia famiglia il 19 agosto.
Eravamo ad Atene in vacanza, Carlo (mio figlio) è partito con una speranza: veder giocare Giannis Antetokounmpo al Torneo dell’Acropoli (si è persino portato dietro la canotta n.34 dei Bucks).
Avevo preso i biglietti per la partita del 20 Grecia-Lettonia (solo due per me e mio figlio perchè costavano molto). Il giorno prima, il 19, ho pensato di passare dal villaggio olimpico, dove c’è il palasport di Oaka, per rendermi conto della situazione e non perdere tempo il giorno della partita. Una volta arrivati lì non sapevamo bene che direzione prendere perchè il villaggio è enorme: andiamo un po' a caso, parcheggio l'auto a caso, andiamo a caso giù da una discesina, giriamo a caso a destra e lì... la meraviglia inaspettata: davanti a noi riconosciamo la sagoma inconfondibile di un gigante: Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Gli siamo andati incontro, nonostante la guardia del corpo dicesse di no. Quando Giannis ha visto i bambini ha fatto segno di avvicinarsi. Per noi lui è un mito assoluto, siamo affascinati dalla sua storia, coi miei figli abbiamo visto il film a lui dedicato 3 volte... gli ho manifestato tutta la nostra ammirazione, gli ho detto che stima profonda ho per sua mamma, gli ho detto che Carlo, mio figlio, gioca a basket, lui mi ha ascoltato con attenzione e rispetto, e mi ha ringraziato, poi ha chiacchierato con Carlo. Ci ha anche presentato suo fratello Kōstas.Poi gli ho detto che il giorno dopo io e Carlo saremmo andati alla partita. A quel punto ci ha detto: “Ma voi siete una famiglia, dovete venire tutti, ai biglietti ci sono io".

Immaginate la nostra felicità: avevamo incontrato una delle più brillanti stelle NBA, avevamo potuto esprimergli tutta la nostra ammirazione, abbiamo fatto tante foto, e saremmo pure stati suoi ospiti alla partita...

Il giorno dopo scopriamo dove ci ha riservato i posti: accanto alla sua famiglia... abbiamo visto la mamma, la moglie con i figli... tutte persone “normali” che hanno saputo preservare il loro essere persone semplici. È stato incredibile.

A distanza di 10 giorni l’emozione è ancora tanta, così come la voglia di condividere questa bella storia di basket con tutti. Per i miei figli è stata un’esperienza formativa, hanno compreso come si può rimanere accoglienti e gentili anche se sei un atleta di fama mondiale.
Prima di salutarci si è rivolto a Carlo è gli ha detto:
“Ascolta sempre i tuoi genitori, impegnati sempre a scuola e negli allenamenti, e prenditi sempre cura di tua sorella”.

Ovviamente ho pianto come una fontana. In quei minuti, oltre a vivere un’emozione straordinaria, abbiamo tutti avuto una grande lezione di vita. Grazie @Giannis_An34".
