HIV: Long before COVID, HIV proved that a virus could slip into the bone marrow and hide in progenitor cells (the grandparents of your blood cells). This is why standard HIV medications can clear the virus from the blood, but if a patient stops taking them, the virus re-emerges from the marrow warehouse.
Tuberculosis (TB): This bacteria is famous for going dormant. It can burrow into the bone marrow and sit quietly for decades. If a person's immune system weakens later in life, the TB wakes up and restarts the war.
Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV): The virus that causes Mono is a master of marrow persistence. It can hide in B-cells inside the marrow, occasionally waking up to cause flares of fatigue.

Because the marrow is a fortress, treating these diseases requires very specific, aggressive strategies. We can't just use standard surface-level drugs.

@Xanten111 My vader was huisarts, en dacht ook zoals jij. Praktijk aan huis dus genoeg zieke mensen in onze leefomgeving. Dat gaf mij veel problemen en geen noemenswaardige immuniteit/weerstand. Nu is duidelijk dat ELKE virus infectie langdurig kan verzwakken!

Exactly, here in Thailand we have AC everywhere, in house, school, work, restaurants, shopping malls, etc.
We were frequently sick before we start masking in 2020, however, last 5 years with PROPER masks and the same AC’s we have almost no infections! 😀😷

@Xanten111 You are a lucky man. My life was a near non-stop series of rhinitis, allergies, bronchitis, colds, etc, + 1 CvD infection.
In 60 years no immunity buildup. Just green boogers all year round. That ALL went away after starting with a proper respirator whenever with other ppl.

@Med58ll @mkeulemans Absoluut! De bewindvoerders in kwestie wisten en weten precies waarom ze bepaalde maatregelen wel of niet invoerden, maar gedurende die tijd waren de economische bezwaren voor hun belangrijker dan de infectie bestrijding/voorkoming in de bevolking. En dat geldt nog steeds! 😞🤬

@Med58ll @mkeulemans Ik volg het covid beleid in NL niet (meer) maar deze houding van de mensen die het beleid voerden/vormden in die eerste jaren na 2020 is universeel over de wereld. Bijna niemand heeft terug gekeken met spijt over de eigen beslissingen.

ACTUAL COVID cases are ~ 60% to 80% hospital acquired
