A few people not quite getting the point saying "but you recommeded Quotum". Of course I didn't, I don't do adverts. This was a fake news story by scammers (ie organised crime) pretending to report me saying something on the TV!
@Winemag@jamiegoode I’ve read previous stuff you’ve written on this, but this is a neat summary. I wondered how the SA 2016 tasting variation would compare to recent Bordeaux 2016 tastings. Would Bdx have less variation as there is, perhaps a clearer expectation of their profile?
@HenryGJeffreys Two of my favourite places on the planet. I also love the little bar attached to El Museo de Moscatel in Chipiona. A real slice of local life.
Caracol is a variety unique to the small island of Porto Santo. It is usually grown low to the ground to protect it from the Atlantic winds. It is possibly related to another local variety called Listrão aka Listán Blanco.
Still in @madeira this wine from quinta do barbusano. A blend of verdelho from Madeira and caracol from Porto Santo. Stone and tropical fruits with a mineral salty finish. Interesting.
Some early flowering in Quinta de Santa Luzia @BlandysWine in Funchal. Great tour with our supremely knowledgeable and friendly guide. A lovely tasting of 6 wines following the evolution of Verdelho and Bual with increasing age. Highly recommended.@madeirawine
I notice that the predicted temperature for today is now a little lower than they were saying it would be. I think it may be due to a temporary reduction in hot air from over the Atlantic.
My wine of the night from @TheWineSociety Rhone tasting in Liverpool. Gorgeous Northern Rhone Syrah. Lovely dark fruits but with the smokey, meaty, spicy notes that you want too. Great evening with super wines.
@X has just updated and become worse. Old post have vanished and it opens with the newest posts rather than where I left off. Still, it means I’ll spend less time on it now, so that’s good.
The govt's Student Loan Plan 2 repayment freeze in April 2027 must be reversed. It isn't moral.
I'm concerned that my debate with Kemi Badenoch this morning distracts from the most immediate problem. In April 2027 Rachel Reeves will freeze the Plan 2 student loan threshold until 2030 which by then will increase graduate repayments by £300/yr more.
This is effectively a unilateral negative breach of the student loan contract. Students were told the threshold would rise with average earnings. No commercial lender would be allowed to do this. The govt shouldn't do it either.
Changing the terms of future students loans is a political decision - people may not like it but it is transparent. Negatively changing the terms of contracts already signed, and long in place, is a breach of natural justice.
Is there a better value wine on the planet than Valdespino Tio Diego Amontillado? About 15yr average age for about £25. Super complex but delightfully drinkable with lovely flor echoes. #sherry#grupoestevez#sherrywines
@RichardBertinet@bathnes I’ve stayed in Bath to attend one of your schools while my wife met up with her sister to spend a day spending money in your beautiful city.

Trump:
"NATO has treated the US very badly. We've never asked for anything. We've never got anything."
Tell that to the families of 850 soldiers from 19 non-US NATO countries who died fighting to defend the US in Afghanistan - the only occasion Article 5 was ever triggered.
A white, Christian, American Mother has been shot and killed by government agents. She was trying to drive away from masked men who were shouting at her and drawing their weapons. She is now being characterised as a domestic terrorist. Wake up Republicans.
