This is one of the rare occasions where I am happy to exceed the visual character limit on this medium. The community needs to talk about demystifying accessibility in React. Gutenberg / the Block Editor / the Site Editor is based on. So more people can start assisting in making and keeping the backend accessible. The social impact is so much bigger than most suspect.

There are several ways to do this wrong in React, and it's not that hard to do it right, when people can teach the core developers what to look for. The longer we wait with this, the more impossible it will be to fix things afterward.

Ending exclusion of users depending on assistive technology in the backend will ensure hundreds of thousands of new jobs, worldwide. Because when the backend is fully accessible, more people can have jobs that involve creating and maintaining WordPress projects. People who are now excluded, can join in on our Make WordPress Projects.

I beg you, please make this a persistent topic. We need to help each other to make this better. There's so much talk about diversity and inclusion in our community. But I hardly hear anyone about the digital side of that. Digital accessibility of the WordPress backend is part of that. And so are the WordCamp websites, by the way.

It currently rests on the shoulders of only a few people, and it's humanly impossible for them to man that ship alone.

I am prepared to make a fool of myself on any stage. I will wear a clown suit if I have to. I will even do a standup comedy act if that is what it takes to get through to people. if we don't address the accessibility issues in the WordPress backend now, there's no (easy) way back. With phase 3 starting now, this is the moment to step up our game as a community, in this regard.

No one working in accessibility will ever tell you it's easy, and neither am I. But it's sure as hell isn't rocket science either. Developers need to be educated on this, in a kind and constructive way!

I'm a public speaker about this topic, and this topic is the hill I am prepared to die on. I get so much positive feedback in the days, weeks and sometimes even months after speaking, from developers telling me they are happy they were put on the accessibility track, and how much they enjoy doing it right. And surely my fellow accessibility advocate speakers receive that same feedback. Because, again, it is not rocket science!

Sorry for the rant, and with the length of my reply this probably should have been turned into a blog post, but this is what I have sleepless nights over. It affects millions of people who cannot use the WordPress backend with the WordPress Site Editor. If things are fully switching over to React, the developers need to be educated about this. Again, in a kind, constructive way!
