One of my obsessions in the work field over the last 4-5 years has been how to solve tokenomics in web3 gaming, once and for all. This particular challenge provides a lot of headaches for game designers who are building blockchain games.
Why is it so challenging?
- It is really hard to make it work.
- It is really hard to make it simple.
The game economy design has never been this complex.
My problem is that I know it can be solved. The solution will not come from one of the big, well-known companies. It will come from a team or a person who is obsessed with that one particular thing.
And I'm committed.
Anyone who has tried to build something from the ground up knows the solutions don't come from a single iteration. They often come from looking in different directions and trying different approaches. Once you get onto something, you have that initial spark that you can use to start iterating on and moving toward your final solution.
I got that initial spark when Ethereum migrated to proof of stake, enabling holders to earn additional yield.
I was hyped about it. We created a first tokenomics iteration but didn't release it. Why? I knew it could be better, and it must be better to onboard Web2 users.
At the beginning of this year, I visited a local coffee shop to revisit our plan and think about how it could be improved.
Do you know how to improve your product or idea best? Simplify it.
That's how I finally came up with the idea that is by far the most loved and understood by people when I pitch it to them.
Will it succeed? I don't know.
What do I know? I know I, or somebody else, will keep iterating on it.
