@timcarlisle01@StAndrewsWine@wstauk@WSTA_Miles@wsta True - but I fundamentally disagree with a viewpoint that says you can’t achieve this and simultaneously galvanise the public. And I don’t buy the idea that it’s too difficult because the public ‘don’t understand’ duty. They aren’t stupid and we shouldn’t treat them as such.
@WSTA_Miles@StAndrewsWine@wstauk@wsta So, it’s not like ‘duty’ is a term they fundamentally don’t understand. Andrew is correct, the campaign is about inflationary pricing, which everyone understands. They don’t need to understand the intricacies of the duty system!!
@WSTA_Miles@StAndrewsWine@wstauk@wsta You can’t call it carping from the sidelines just because you disagree. Saying consumers don’t understand duty is a nonsense. They understand duty perfectly well to the extent that when gov increases fuel duty, the pump price increases. The same with alcohol.
@WSTA_Miles@StAndrewsWine@wstauk@wsta Turning it into ‘us and them’, whilst asking ‘us’ indies for money, whilst failing to cut through, doesn’t give ‘us’ much confidence I’m afraid.
@StAndrewsWine@wstauk@WSTA_Miles@wsta Totally agree! The proof on this is when you look beyond the industry. Fuel Duty has been frozen for over a decade, which is wholly down to a very effective trade body that lobbies incredibly well both in parliament AND more importantly across the media.
@elonmusk People in glass houses Elon… 11 year old girls in your country get routinely shot whilst at school on an almost weekly basis. By comparison, the UK is just fine thanks.
@AnnaJerzewska Yes, HMRC have form in providing in depth and complete guidance and support on such matters, I remember it well from last time, I have absolute confidence in them. 🤪
@DanielLambert29 I like the theory, but - Everybody’s - seems to be the main issue. I’m not sure you can call a £15 wine everybody’s unfortunately, when the avg bottle sold in UK will almost certainly be lower. How about ‘Weekday Red’ (and a slightly lower price point 😬)?
@DanielLambert29 @BylinesCymru@emlyn_yunfei Has been for generations. Multi-generational poverty. My grandparents grew up in the Rhymney Valley, they are buried there. It is a community forgotten, let down. And it’s any wonder the area voted highest swing for Brexit, and now want Reform? They want change, of any kind.
@mrblairbowman @DanielLambert29 @james_tayl1 Bruichladdich would agree to disagree who age on the island, but I guess it’s pretty convenient for Bowmore 😉 I’ve used Islay as an example but do wonder what happens in say Speyside etc… how many distilleries actually age on site…
