The last phone calls made by 9/11 victims to their loved ones:
"I just wanted to let you know I love you and I'm stuck in this building in New York. There's lots of smoke, and I just wanted you to know that I love you always."
— Melissa Harrington Hughes, in New York for a single day of work, to her husband Sean.
"Jules, this is Brian. Listen, I'm on an airplane that's been hijacked. If things don't go well, and it's not looking good, I just want you to know I absolutely love you. I want you to do good, go have good times. I'll see you when you get there."
— Brian Sweeney, aboard Flight 175, to his wife Julie.
"I want to tell you I love you. Please tell my children that I love them very much, and I'm so sorry."
— CeeCee Lyles, flight attendant on Flight 93, to her husband Lorne.
"Tell my mother that I love her and that she's the best mom in the whole world."
— Melissa Doi, 83rd floor, South Tower, to a 911 operator.
"If I don't make it, please call my family and let them know how much I love them."
— Todd Beamer, aboard Flight 93, moments before the passengers fought back.
Every one of them knew. And when there was no time left for anything else, not one of them spoke of money, or work, or the things we spend our lives chasing. They spoke of love, and of the people they called family.
We drift through so much of life half asleep, carried along by routine, numbed by a rhythm we never chose. And yet, when everything is stripped away and the noise finally stops, the truest part of us rises to the surface...
In the end, love is all that matters.
"Papà, hai lottato a lungo.
A special day for me, my first Roland Garros semifinal, and to reach the ranking of world #1.
Grateful for this moment, something we have worked very hard for, but the work doesn’t stop here, forza!!!
