On that gloomy morning of February 24, 2022, with missile strikes thundering from every direction in Kyiv, I would never have believed that Russia’s invasion would last longer than either the entire Eastern Front of World War II or the whole of World War I.

And I certainly would not have believed that, after a span of time equal to the entire Great War, Ukraine would still be fighting with great valor on equal terms against the full might of Russia and its totalitarian allies -- and, moreover, would be launching devastating daily and nightly missile and drone strikes across the European part of Russia.

What we have gotten used to in the news on the daily basis is actually historic, revolutionary, outstanding, mindblowing, and it will take us a lot of time to truly ascertain this.

As time has shown, Ukrainian heroism turned everything upside down and changed the course of history at a moment when almost no one believed in Ukraine.

🇺🇦🇮🇹 42-year-old Italian volunteer Alex Pineschi was killed while defending Ukraine near Lyman, according to reports from fellow foreign volunteers and Ukrainian media.

Before coming to Ukraine, Pineschi had spent years in conflict zones in Syria and Iraq, where he fought against ISIS and worked as an instructor. He later said that he joined Ukraine’s defense because he had found “a cause worth risking everything for.”

Reports say he was serving with a Ukrainian reconnaissance and drone unit and was killed alongside his comrades on May 23.

Alex became one of many foreign volunteers who left behind their ordinary lives to stand with Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. His story is a reminder that this war has drawn people from around the world who believed Ukraine’s fight was also a fight for freedom.

Honor, respect, and gratitude to a man who chose to stand with Ukraine.

Il Presidente della Repubblica in Italia è una figura istituzionale prevalentemente cerimoniale. Potrebbe starsene tranquillo, pronunciare le solite frasi di circostanza e di fatto estraniarsi dalla politica.

Tuttavia, noi in Italia abbiamo Sergio Mattarella, un Presidente che invece si comporta non solo da politico, ma da ottimo politico: dicendo le cose come stanno, anche quando potrebbero far perdere consensi e seguendo una chiara agenda politica che è addirittura da intendersi come bussola morale.

Di questo gliene dobbiamo essere grati.

Le scrivo dopo lo spiacevole episodio avvenuto nel corso di un convegno organizzato ieri presso l’Università Federico II a Napoli. L’evento ha visto protagonisti anche diversi militanti dell’ANPI, i quali, come si evince dai video girati dai partecipanti, hanno aggredito verbalmente e fisicamente alcuni attivisti pro-Ucraina con l’intento di impedire loro di porre alcune domande ai relatori in merito alle attività di propaganda svolte in favore della Russia.

Mi corre l’obbligo di farle notare che anche quest’anno l’ANPI ha ottenuto dal suo Ministero un contributo pari ad euro 95.400 per attività tra le quali figurano quelle legate alla valorizzazione della memoria della resistenza.

Non credo di essere l’unico a chiedersi se sia il caso di continuare ad appaltare il ruolo di principale custode della memoria dell’antifascismo ad un’associazione che non è nemmeno in grado di condannare i suoi stessi militanti, mentre compiono azioni che hanno il chiaro l’obiettivo di limitare la libertà di espressione ed il diritto di contestazione di chi la pensa diversamente. Così come forse sarebbe opportuno che il suo Ministero chieda al presidente di ANPI Nazionale come sia possibile che un'associazione partigiana partecipi all’organizzazione di innumerevoli eventi nei quali si esibiscono personaggi come Angelo D’Orsi. Il professore emerito dell’Università di Torino, come saprà, ha infatti partecipato come INVITATO, a due distinti eventi promossi dal canale russo RT, sanzionato a livello europeo, svoltisi a Minsk e Mosca. Entrambi i festival, insieme alle dittature che li hanno ospitati, sono stati poi elogiati con grande passione e convinzione dal professore, sebbene, come è noto, si tratti di regimi totalitari, che sopprimono sistematicamente la libertà di opinione e condannano oppositori e dissidenti, nella migliore delle ipotesi, a marcire nelle patrie galere.

Le basterà dare un’occhiata ai post, ai video e a ogni altra uscita pubblica del Prof D’Orsi per rilevare lo stabile sostegno offerto alla dittatura fascista di Putin e le innumerevoli plateali menzogne riportate e ripetute per vilipendere l’eroica resistenza ucraina.

Personalmente ritengo che i numerosi appelli lanciati in queste settimane dal Presidente della Repubblica, affinché si affrontino alla radice i rischi collegati alla guerra ibrida, siano tanto più validi e attuali quando l’invasione dello spazio informativo da parte di chi sostiene la propaganda di uno stato criminale, seppur indirettamente, avviene addirittura con il sostegno di importanti realtà che operano attraverso fondi pubblici, le quali hanno quindi la possibilità di accreditarsi così come soggetti “istituzionali”.

Certo che saprà chiedere ed ottenere dall’ANPI la necessaria chiarezza, le rinnovo la mia stima.

I have not been on vacation for four years. I have had no business trips to establish new connections. Currently, I live and work about 70% of the time without electricity. I had to buy batteries. On average, every two weeks I wake up in the middle of the night to explosions. My children have spent hundreds of days sleeping outside their own beds. Some of my friends have been killed; others are on the front line. Some members of my team joined the army, and one of them was wounded. I’ve seen hundreds of videos and photos of destroyed homes, murdered people, torture and executions, and children’s funerals. I may end up in trenches myself.

Do I want the war to end? Of course I do. Much more than you — believe me. So why don’t I support the “peace plan” Trump is pushing?

Because one does not have to be a genius to understand that this plan would bring only a short pause before a much bigger war. If no one but Ukraine uses force to stop Putin, why would he stop? He will come up with another excuse for why his army must move further. And if he knows that neither the U.S. nor the EU will intervene, what will stop him?

I often hear the argument: “I just want people to stop dying.” I want that too — far more than you —b ecause I am one of those people. But if Ukraine withdraws without a fight from the cities in Donbas that it has fortified for years, why do you think that will save lives? About 300,000 people live there. They will either have to flee or stay and undergo “filtration,” which means many will be tortured and executed. Men will be forcibly drafted into the Russian army. And then that army will march further, forcing Ukrainians to kill Ukrainians. Tell me — how does that save lives?

It also means the Russian army will gain the ability to bomb territories that are currently safe. The war will not end. Ukraine will simply lose its fortress cities without a fight. Those who “just want to go home to their families” and support this idea will eventually find themselves fighting again — this time in even worse conditions.

And who says that if they go home, they won’t be quietly taken in the middle of the night and simply disappear? That would be the most logical thing for Russia to do if it takes over. Genocide is the only way to break a nation’s spirit. In the 1990s, they killed 25% of the Chechen nation. They killed millions of Ukrainians before. They killed in Bucha and Izium in 2022, and in other occupied cities — you can find the photos if you want. Why do you think they won’t repeat it?

There is nothing that would protect us from this scenario. That is why there is absolutely no reason for me to support this plan. We need peace — not the horrors of occupation.

40.000 acri sono 16000 ettari. Ci vorrebbero 4 di questi obbrobri per produrre in Nord Italia i 45 TWh che produce la centrale nucleare di Barakah, negli Emirati, costruita su appena 200 ettari. E la centrale non ha bisogno di sistemi di accumulo, nè giornalieri nè stagionali e neppure di sistemi di bilanciamento. Sicché l'energia costa complessivamente un terzo.
Non ci crederete, ma i sostenitori di questo scempio amano definirsi ambientalisti!
L'ho già detto, ma lo ripeto volentieri: ambientalismo senza nucleare non è nemmeno giardinaggio, ma tutt'al piú gerani sul balcone in ZTL!

Io decido che uno che difende putin e non ritiene necessario sostenere con tutto ció che serve un Paese aggredito da un dittatore sanguinario è un farabutto a prescindere dal mestiere che fa. Decido anche che tanto più è un farabutto quanto più costui è acculturato. In questo caso essere un docente universitario è un'aggravante. È più chiaro così?
