England 3, Mexico 2. The Azteca Stadium. Finished at 4am UK time. An instant World Cup classic.
@BBCSport honouring the match with another tremendous montage. 😍
It’s July and there’s a World Cup on, there is no universe in which I’m reading a postmortem on United missing out on a player from the championship. It’s just not happening.
What happened to Maradona‘s shirt?
We are 40 years on from England’s last match in the Azteca. The game will always be remembered for the ‘Hand of God’ but, after the game, England’s Steve Hodge swapped shirts with the Argentinian superstar.
He held onto the shirt for over 30 years before selling it in 2022 for £7,142,500!
It remains one of the highest valued pieces of sporting memorabilia ever.
Back to 1am then. When it all comes down to it, do you want to say
“Remember when England played Mexico at the Azteca in the World Cup in the middle of the night and we all got plenty of sleep and went to work next day”
NO. Pack the pubs. Back the boys.
Come on England. 🏴
@farhadchoksey@ViewFromTheQ First 10,000 get in, then it’s 1 in 1 out I believe. Need to arrive roughly before 7am to guarantee top 10,000. Doors open 10am so hopefully in not long after 👍
85 million pounds for 63 premier league appearances, 5 goals and 2 relegations. The board have ABSOLUTELY made the correct decision not to go all out. Did these E reds learn nothing from Antony and Sancho.
Crazy money for a 21 year old relegated player. For that sort of money you should be getting the finished article, not someone with potential, Spurs have had their pants pulled down. I’m sure United have bigger and better targets for better value than this 💪🇾🇪
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham Hotspur win race to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Spurs submitted highest proposal (believed to be ~£85m guaranteed) & 21yo #WHUFC midfielder opted to join #THFC. Numbers beyond where #MUFC willing to go @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/8JMyfl8LoS
