I’m so happy that she received this. There is truly no other person who has been a tireless advocate of librarians in Illinois. Dorsey, congratulations!!!!!!

I picked this up today. Read so many Ruby Bridges before. This THIS is the one. An incredible, invaluable addition to any collection. Good call @annakim1

@CpsLibraries Here’s another awful one. Last year on Juneteenth, I inadvertently attempted to center whyte fragility in a PL on equity in library spaces. Thankfully, a colleague called me out. When you learn more, you do better. I’m forever learning.
@MaryWoodard@CpsLibraries I’ll take the plunge. When trying to spotlight DEI books in a library, I essentially segregated those very books into a separate collection. I did end up course correcting but still. 😩🤦
On #love and #library cataloging:
"When I asked one student where queer books should go, her words brought tears to my eyes: 'I want queer books to be everywhere. Because love is everywhere.'"

@MaryWoodard@MsTLHLMC That’s a great place to start! Our draft policy is scheduled to be reviewed by the CPS board in July. It was not available for view when we recorded the On-Demand, but you can take a look at it now: https://t.co/N0x1Dqpzoy
@CpsLibraries If your headed to #alaac21, check out our On Demand session where with will talk about the Critical Cataloging Project “Cultural Responsiveness in the Library: Centering Equity Beyond Collection Development”. https://t.co/hjf7hCqxBB
The Critical Cataloging Project at CPS, led by CPS librarians, is working to adjust the subject headings & keywords that are used to locate books in our catalog. Some of these terms are historically racist, sexist, ableist, & heteronormative. #WordsMatterCPS
