Geologist goes swimming: working on natural and enhanced silicate weathering @UUEarthSciences | interested in silica-carbon coupling, CDR and stable isotopes
Just out: Our Goldschmidt 2025 session on marine silicate alteration and impact on marine element cycles was just accepted!
If you have exciting new data on all (!) involved elements, consider submitting an abstract

So happy to announce that our #PRELIFE consortium was awarded๐ฅณIn one of 16 projects on the emergence of life, I will investigate the onset of silicate weathering and its coupling to ocean chemistry.
For the silica lovers: special emphasis on reverse weathering๐@UUEarthSciences
Clays, clays, clays! Clays are complicated, but this paper does a nice job framing some of these complications using ISOTOPES (of silicon)! ๐! For all those interested in 'enhanced' ๐ชจ๐ง๏ธ for CDR, these are the sorts of papers you should be๐! Ask yourself how your MRV is going to keep track of all the alkalinity passing through clays!

Interested in detecting marine silicate alteration and element cycling using stable isotopes? Then you might like this one, where we show the diagenetic impacts on Si isotopes during authigenic clay maturation.

Good to note as well:
Abstract deadline is already THIS FRIDAY (29.03.)!

Great idea @climatejesper, thanks for making the effort๐๐๐ !
I really appreciate this compilation as it is really difficult to keep track in this quickly evolving #CDR field!

Hmm, quite tricky to find pics for mineral-water reactions in the water column and at the seafloor ๐

Unless humanity drastically reduces its greenhouse gas emissions, global warming is unstoppable, with
unpredictable consequences.
Our goal is to make climate change impacts perceivable in a creative-poetic way.

We, the Institute of Climate Beauty, are getting ready!
In Kiel this and next weekend (16./17.+34./24.09.)? Then come and visit us at the Kielline, close to the aquarium.
Preserving climate beauty instead of managing
climate crises!
