The Natural Resource and Energy Committee met yesterday and I’m watching it this morning.

Chair Angie Hatton spoke about data centers, water regionalization, and data centers. This thread contains my responses to that!

Rep. Smith: advocated for natural gas cost regulation for individual home owners.

Hatton: we do have the power to disapprove.

West: if someone (a utility) comes in without a tariff, do you think you have enough power to help them?

The PSC will approve the final contract with the idea of protecting rate payers. - Angie.

Angie said Kentucky has said all of the primary profit utility companies have applied for tariffs. Each has minimum terms- large deposits- a lot of provisions to make sure the data center pay for their own electric cost.

Data Centers: Senator West asked what the ability of the PSC is to mandate a data center. This Q was to help guide what potential legislation is needed for them to do so in the 2027 session.

If E-Rate shifts and we expand infrastructure to support data centers, then data centers should help repay that investment by supporting the connections our public schools rely on—especially in rural Kentucky.

I drove through Gallatin and Owen Counties yesterday and saw a lot of trees down and property damage. I spoke to a farmer from Owen and he lost his barn.

Kentucky’s GOP controlled legislature has had years to write data center policies that would protect our counties.

Instead, they’ve forced local governments to do it. Wedging between local officials, their constituents, as well as future and present business opportunities.

Some women say they’d give up their right to vote and embrace one vote per household with husbands deciding. That’s not democracy. That’s retreat from equal rights for women. The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. We’re not giving that up. @LWV
