The children have been making bird feeders this week using a variety of materials. This experience helped foster an appreciation for nature and a sense of responsibility as they help care for the local wildlife. #STEM
STEAM challenge focusing on the Arts. Today the children used a pendulum swing to create different patterns and designs. This experience combined both engineering and the Arts.
STEM challenge focusing on ENGINEERING. Children became familiar with the tools: hammer, screwdriver and saw. We discussed safety around tools and children practiced using the tools. They described their creations as “a big crocodile”-A “a goal and monkey bars”-L 🔨 #STEMnation
Our second STEM challenge. Focusing on technology, with the use of beebots. Children used arrows to create their own algorithm which they then inputted into the beebot. Children also explored the burst photo feature using the iPad as they were jumping. #STEMnation 🤖
Our first STEM challenge, our STEM Captains made a lava lamp. Experimenting how oil and water form two separate layers and as the vitamin tablet dissolves it creates a chemical reaction making it look like a lava lamp as bubbles are formed 🧪🫧 #STEMnation#experimenting
Our first experiment in the STEM Den. Children asked to create a volcano after discussions about lava🌋they were able to name the ingredients used and share their predictions following each step to conduct their experiment🧪#STEMNation#leadership#childreninSTEM
A group of children were exploring magnets in the garden. They used their investigation skills to explore the properties of objects- identifying if they were magnetic or non-magnetic.
J- "it's sticking to it"
F- "I found something magnetic"
Park Drive Nurseries STEM DEN. Our new addition for the next term. Can’t wait to discover new stem-tastic ideas in our new learning area #STEMnation#womeninSTEM#earlyyears
J has taken a keen interest in volcanos. He asked to do a volcano experiment choosing red paint “lava is red.” He was very excited as he poured the bicarbonate of soda into the vinegar watching it react creating lava 🌋#STEMnation#STEMeducation
Children engaged with an egg experiment. Placing them into the water discovering if they sink or float. Children identified sinking eggs as ‘fresh eggs’ and floating ‘old eggs’. 🥚🍳💧 #STEMnation#STEMeducation#experimenting
The children have been creating their own chalk paint for the garden. They used
a grater, chalk and water. Experimenting with the amounts of each to create the right consistency.
“making it into a powder” “the chalk is disappearing”.

H had a plan for building a museum outside, discovering he needed help he asked his peer. H shared his plan with C and they worked together problem solving with the blocks. Everyone was happy with the end result of the museum 👷🏼♀️👷🏽#teamwork#STEMnation
Caterpillars arrived at nursery this week after learning about their lifecycle. Children have made predictions on what colour they think the butterflies will be. The children are excited to see the full process over the coming weeks🐛🦋 #STEM#STEMnation#STEMeducation
On Thursday we explored our senses as we engaged in slime and crackle bath experiences. We used our sight, touch and hearing🧪💥 #STEM#STEMeducation#STEMnation
