Learning about the Five Themes of Geography this week. As a project, they are working in groups to develop infographic posters to educate people about the themes :)
@mraspinall Absolutely. I focus on respect, responsibility, and relationship (shared values that all of us are accountable to) and discuss what we are expected to accomplish. When behavior interferes with that, I’ll call it out. I’m more explicit upfront with younger grades though.
@GiftedTawk Also - “no battle is ever won according to plan, but no battle is ever won without one.” - Eisenhower. That’s served me well in many life circs. Teaching, I have the TEKS and a scope/sequence to accomplish… but have wiggle room and am willing to cut things if not needed.
@GiftedTawk You will be asked to juggle a lot of balls this year, and some are going to drop. The trick is knowing which ones are rubber and which ones are glass.
Not original obv, just passed around grad school and overall useful.
This is my first year teaching Social Studies in High School, so I’m doing one of those list things. Lighting is a high priority because I want to make sure my students are comfortable. https://t.co/c7qMz8vEPy
Soooo…. I just got the official word. I’m moving to High School next year!! I’ll be teaching World Geography, Econ/Government, and Personal Finance. I’m very excited!
If you have any good resources that could help me learn or help communicate to my students, please share!
I’d asked them what ecosystems they wanted to learn more about and that one won (oceans was second) so I’m working to incorporate it into my lessons. #studentchoiceftw (check out the bonus Dino food chain ❤️ I love their willingness to create without needing perfection!)
Today was a Fabulous Food Web day!!! I had a student teacher who helped me plan/put on the lesson. First we went outside and used yarn to model the flow of energy in the food web, starting from the sun, to a producer, consumers, to the top tier predator (or decomposers) 1/
Then we went in and did stations, building food chains and making sure we knew how the energy flowed. As an extension activity, we looked at organisms in a DINOSAUR food web!! 2/
@GrobieLauren @flowerfire@JayWamsted Well considering I used algebraic thinking today when tutoring fourth graders… I’d say understanding how math actually works by gaining a good grasp of algebra and calculus is more important than you think.
@flowerfire @GrobieLauren @JayWamsted Yes! I'd say that the numeracy that we focus on at that age is critical critical critical to the development of other things. I teach 4th grade math, and have to reteach things that really should be an automatic skill by now, but that takes good math taught at lower grades.
@Sneffleupagus@HeatherL114@EThorntonGHS def not 4th. I'm a 4th teacher with sound sensitivity issues (can hear them playing videos WITH their headphones on sometimes).... and these kids just don't understand what a whisper is. Or they think they do when they're supposed to be silent 😂 like _i can hear you_
