Just had an intensivist of 20+ years ask my opinion on remdesivir, tocilizumab, and dexamethasone for a new COVID admit. He also asked me to look at the chest X-ray. Good to know the AMA thinks Paxlovid is “far beyond” my scope.
I worked with an all male service this week. Today, the attending physician stopped us on rounds to show us the news about the Supreme Court ruling. Lots of oohing and aahing. A medical resident made a joke about an impending civil war and the need for “our guns”. I was silent.
All eyes on me, a second resident said “You’re quiet Nicole.” I answered “I’m 14 weeks pregnant so I guess I don’t find jokes very funny.” Lots of awkward congratulations and then an apology. I felt very alone. We need men to show up. Especially male physicians.
