Attention: The coming #solarstorm is going to be much stronger than predicted! It has hit Solar Orbiter, which is currently serving as a long-range upstream monitor ahead of Earth. From the magnetic field observations (see red boxed area in the magnetic field plot), the magnetic structure of the storm has either rotated slightly or SolO is hitting the "bent" part of the structure that has the solar slinky tilted on its side. We now know the structure will likely have a "SWN" flux rope configuration once it hits Earth. If conditions hold, this means #aurora will build fast when the storm hits and stay strong for about the first 6 hours or so (throughout the magnetosheath and the early part of the solar storm core). Then the field will likely flip north and the storm will no longer be a strong aurora producer at mid-latitudes. In a nutshell, what all this means is that NOAA and NASA have underpredicted the impact of this coming storm. It could easily be a G3-level or higher, *IF* the observations from Solar Orbiter are any indication. Also, this storm will arrive between early to midday October 28 UTC time!
It's a #solarstorm train! We now have FIVE storms headed towards Earth! Storm 2, 3, and 5 will be direct hits as seen in the coronagraph imagery. Impacts start around midday May 10 and will continue through late May 12 at least. G3-level conditions & extended #aurora possible.
Agreed. #Aurora photographers get ready! We finally have an Earth-directed #solarstorm worthy of solar maximum. This could easily give us G2, possibly G3-level impacts, sometime late March 25 or early March 26. Waiting for NASA and NOAA model runs to confirm.
The super #solarstorm launched during a X4.98-flare New Year's Eve will clip Earth. NOAA prediction shows impact early January 2 (UTC). The storm should hit hard, but last less than a day. Expect bright, but short-lived #aurora plus #radio signal disruptions on Earth's nightside.
Waiting patiently for the official NOAA/SWPC #solarstorm prediction to compare with this one from NASA, which shows a glancing blow late on July 19. NASA predicts up to a G3-level storm, but it depends upon storm magnetic orientation, speed & how directly the storm hits Earth.
