Just as our bodies are physical and yet made spiritually alive in Christ, so the Eucharist remains bread but is made to ALSO be spiritual food.

St. Irenaeus did not believe in a replacement of the Eucharist (bread into flesh), but an ENHANCEMENT:

“…bread from the earth, when it receives the invocation of God, is no longer common bread but the Eucharist, made up of two elements, one earthly and one heavenly,”
