#OUB329#week18 Thank you to all of Robert's yellow group and Bryn who helped with our #B329LeadershipChallenge, I definitely learnt a lot of things from researching the topic, and also new ways of addressing problems from the collaboration
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week17 Leadership using stories is a useful way to alter a subject's discourse. There are 5 key ingredients to impactful storytelling:
1. Make the reader care
2. Take the read on a journey
3. Care about the subject
4. Be relatable
5. Charm the audience
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week17 the social change leadership framework (Pares et al., 2017), suggest 4 core practices support leadership in reframing discourse, bridging differences and unleashing human energy:
1. Organising
2. Advocacy
3. Community building
4. Service provision
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week16 this week we also learned leadership has changed with the advancement of social media. Activists who have previously worked in relative isolation can now connect with other marginalised groups to increase the overall reach of their own campaign
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week16 this week we learnt an overall leader is not always needed in leadership as long as followers follow a shared #vision. However, members of a group can often have different interpretations of that purpose which is known as #pluralism@robertsullivan
@Rebecca_B329@robertsullivan @LauraWB329 @BrynB329 Yeah the module alluded to how people in precarity are using social media to help their cause. What i didnt mention is how social media is also associated with bullying, harassment, organised crime, and many other malicious practices
@Rebecca_B329@Barry_Verdin I enjoyed reading your call to action, it certainly gets you captivated early and makes you read further. Has there been much research done on the practicality of being able to collect, store, transport and disperse the milk in a way to make it a viable option?
With the cost of living biting, it's more important than ever that council and school workers get decent pay. Ask your councillor to use their influence to support a pay rise for the staff delivering vital services 💜 #Payup2023 https://t.co/WPzuQOXZJl
#OUB329#week15 this week we learnt the power and resistance framework (Fleming and Spicer, 2007), that suggests for every type of power exerted; coercion, manipulation, dominance, subjectification, there is a form of resistance; refusal, voice, escape, creation @robertsullivan
#OUB329#week15 this week introduced us to the various types of leadership resistance through the 'oppositional workplace practices' resistance continuum (Collinson and Ackroyd, 2005). Leader's needs to understanding how resistance manifests itself to address it @robertsullivan
#OUB329#week14 this week we also learnt about place-based leadership. This theory suggests some challenges are best dealt with at smaller scale if the drivers involved are unique to each location. Whereas a national challenge will need a much broader approach
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week14 this week began by explaining the difference between tame, wicked and critical challenges using Grint's framework. If my team wants to win our leadership challenge we must ensure we choose a either a wicked or critical challenge
@robertsullivan
#OUB329#week12 this week we learned the importance of seeking postive-sum games, where both parties benefit, when forming collaborations, and than initial compromise and clearly set initial goals go a long way to achieving this @robertsullivan
#OUB329#wk11 traditionally disagreements and dissent have carried negative connotations. However, as workplaces become increasingly diverse, it holds merit to allow both, depending on circumstances, to ensure the best decisions for the company are made. @robertsullivan
#OUB329#wk9 this week revealed that I have weaknesses in my collaboration ability. I feel I am experienced in building trust and being analytical, but I must improve in relationship building, and giving and visual clues, e.g., prompts, signals and body language @robertsullivan
#OUB329#wk9 a collaborative leader can either facilitate collaboratioj through agreed activities by building trust, support, empowerment and inclusion, but also by manipulation, influencing agendas and by playing politics when needed @robertsullivan
