This is the result of many bad legacy decisions taken by UKRI hastily and without proper consultation, overseen by a government department that no longer exists. Surely the new @andyburnham government will want to take time to review this.
As I get ready to pass on the torch to the next Labour leader and Prime Minister, here are my thoughts on our first two years in government.
What we've done, and more importantly, who we have done it for.

26 June 1977. Elvis walked out at Market Square Arena, Indianapolis, for his final show.
49 years later, we decided that night deserved to be remembered.
We’ve sung Can’t Help Falling in Love for nearly 50 years. To our fans in the US, and all Elvis fans - this is Episode One.
I stand by my record – including putting us on course for a record reduction in child poverty – and if the Tories think that makes me a 'spiteful class warrior', it tells you everything you need to know about them.
📈 3,008 more teachers in secondaries & special schools
📈1,646 more teachers in colleges
📈Trainee teachers up 13%
📈 Teacher pay up 9.5%
📈 Record investment in schools
If standing up for state schools makes me a spiteful class warrior, I’ll wear it with pride.

Thank you, @Keir_Starmer, for the friendship and excellent cooperation over the years.
You have been a strong supporter of Ukraine and a trusted leader on security when Europe needed both. Estonia deeply values the UK's commitment to our region. We see it every day in Tapa, where British soldiers serve alongside our forces.
Good friends stand together. Estonia and the UK always will.
NEW: Statement by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni 🇮🇹🇬🇧
I wish, on behalf of the Italian Government, to thank Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the work we have done together over these years.
We have collaborated on key issues for both our nations: from the management of migration flows to the major international crises, always with great pragmatism, while at the same time significantly strengthening the bilateral relationship, particularly in the strategic sectors of the defence industry and energy.

@GiorgiaMeloni@Keir_Starmer
I consider @Keir_Starmer a friend and I'm thinking of him on what must be a very tough day.
Serving in public life is a tremendous privilege but politics can also be a harsh business.
When the time comes for Keir to leave Downing Street, he can be proud of the contribution he has made to the country he loves and to the Labour Party that he led back to Government in 2024.
I'm grateful for the opportunities we had to work together to strengthen our AUKUS defence and security partnership, support the brave people of Ukraine and keep children safe from the damage that social media can do.
I wish Keir, Victoria and their children well with everything the future holds.
Keir, thank you for all our cooperation, your support, and the joint decisions that have helped make our Europe and our protection of life stronger.
The United Kingdom has been, is, and will remain among the world’s leaders. Here in Ukraine, we deeply value Britain, and every meeting and every conversation we have had has always been filled with real substance.
Thank you for always being in touch, always engaged, and always striving to do what is needed and what will truly help.
I wish the United Kingdom and all British people every success as well as realisation of your national goals. We have confidence in Britain.
Keir, you are always a welcome guest in Ukraine.
@Keir_Starmer
Dear Keir,
Thank you for standing with Belarusians and for your principled support for our democratic future.
At a time when dictators try to divide and intimidate Europe, your voice stood firmly with freedom.
Belarusians will always remember your solidarity with gratitude.
Under your premiership @Keir_Starmer, we turned a new page in EU-UK relations.
The EU is committed to continued cooperation in this spirit.
It has been a pleasure to work with you, as a colleague and a friend.
Thank you, dear Keir.
A democratically elected British Prime Minister has been driven from office by a relentless campaign of propaganda and misinformation; funded, amplified and perpetuated by foreign billionaires and elites whose interests bear zero resemblance to those of ordinary working people.
A noble gesture from an emotional Keir Starmer, entirely consistent with his conduct in office.
A truly sad day for British democracy.
His full resignation speech:
Legends say that every time Real Betis and Sunderland face each other in pre-season, both teams go on to qualify for European competition.
Congratulations, @SunderlandAFC! 🤝
