Travis Knight NEEDS to cast Sydney Sweeney as She-Ra.
I’m not saying that as lazy fan-casting. I’m saying it because MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE probably needs a bigger name if Amazon MGM wants the sequel to feel like a real event.
Travis Knight has said he already has an actress in mind for She-Ra, which is interesting. But one of the challenges with the first movie is that the biggest names were not really positioned as the main draw.
Idris Elba is in it, but he is not the lead. Jared Leto was apparently great as Skeletor, but the marketing kept him at arm’s length for obvious reasons. Nicholas Galitzine may have been good, but HE-MAN still needed more star power around him.
She-Ra fixes that.
And Sweeney makes a lot of sense.
Her career is in a strong upswing, she is not afraid of IP, and she clearly knows how to use studio projects to build leverage for the things she wants to produce. MADAME WEB may not have worked as a movie, but she understood the business side of taking that swing.
Now she has momentum, producing ambitions, and enough name recognition to make a SHE-RA reveal feel like news outside the MOTU fan bubble.
PLUS...she's hot.
That is what Amazon needs.
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE may have opened soft theatrically, but the physical media interest is strong, the Prime Video future is obvious, and Amazon does not seem ready to throw Eternia in the trash.
Good.
But if they want the sequel to level up, they need someone who can sell the next chapter to more than just dads, collectors, and 80s kids.
Bring in She-Ra.
Make it Sydney Sweeney.
Let Eternia get loud.
