I should have seen this before, but something my kids brought to light this morning:
Before the road to Damascus, Saul was living up to his name: breathing out murderous threats and persecuting the Lord's anointed king.
“Jesus Christ is the first and foremost witness. He is alive, and his presence is communicative … A dogmatic statement says what is in Jesus Christ, and it does so only because the church has heard what Christ says about himself in the Scriptures.” Kevin Vanhoozer
1 Sam. 17 via Ps. 23:
David meets Goliath in the valley. He is the only one who did not fear evil for the Lord was with him. The food he brought to the battle, was turned into a feast. And he is taken to dwell in the house of the king, followed by success from then on.
@DrCurtisFreeman There are few who understood the human experience more deeply or communicated it more clearly. His is one of the few photos in my office to remind me to do the same.
“The subject of Christology is not isolated historicism, nor is it an entirely subjective religious experience; rather it is the objective and ongoing
presence of Christ-his reconciling men and women to God by giving himself to them” Darren Sumner
Christ: Living Lord @viaemmaus
She was a member her whole life at the Pentecostal church up the road. Attended and served faithfully into her nineties. I preached her funeral there in ‘21. Had to snap this pic of the church sign on my way by today
Glad to be back on the family farm in Watertown, TN. Granny grew up a few miles from this property. Prayed as a young adult the Lord would allow her to buy it. My parents live in the house now.
Painting of Candies Creek BC in Cleveland, TN. Founded in 1834. In 1991 my father in law began his ministry there. He would practice his first sermons in the graveyard behind. In 2014 he was buried there. Always reminds me of faithfulness in ministry.
“Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky”

Eph. 6:19 Paul asks the church to pray also for him “in order that the word (logos) may be given in the opening of my mouth, to boldly know the mystery of the gospel…and to boldly speak it, which is how I ought to speak.”
God continues to work on us through our confession
“Whenever Scripture speaks, Christ speaks—and not just as the object of Scripture but as its living, acting subject.”
Clark and Johnson, “Call to Christian Formation”
The Living Lord speaks his Personal Call through his Inspired Word @viaemmaus
“When we speak of the Bible as Holy Scripture—its own proper identity—we say simply that we encounter God there… Inspiration is the name we give to the meeting of God in the Bible.”

The public library: one of the wonders of the world
Thank you Walkertown public library for getting this one across the county in 24hrs. Crisis averted.
As the *remembered* Jesus, he is also the *object* of gospel-talk; he is the given about whom we speak, and accurate narration of the facts about him is the objective self-identity of all gospel-talk.”
- Robert Jenson
As *risen*, Jesus is the final future who ever opens new promises beyond those already made. All gospel address and response is in Jesus’ name and to him, so that he is the free *subject* of this conversation, who initiates its surprising twists and new beginnings…
