Andy Burnham has halted the Nationalisation of Thames Water.

As the law currently stands Water Companies need a Water License to be able to sell you Water.

Almost all of them have broken pollution laws, their licenses could be revoked today because of that.

Then they would be unable to charge you.

Then Nationalised for free.

And it's bloody good advice. I've long suspected that lawyers within Defra have been ill advising ministers with their ultra cautious, ultra conservative approach.

Burnham is looking at rewriting insolvency law so Thames Water and the rest of the privatised utilities can finally be pulled under public control.

That is the right fight. Creditors who loaded the company with debt and treated clean water as a cash machine now threaten legal war to keep their grip. The establishment spent forty years selling the pipes and the rivers.

Ordinary people paid the bills and swam in the sewage. Changing the rules to put the public first is not radical. It is the bare minimum after decades of extraction. Hold the nerve. The parasites will scream. Let them.

Almost nobody has connected the dots since: BlackRock is now one of the creditors positioned to take control of Thames Water, Britain's largest water utility, serving 16 million people.
And the ownership graphic doing the rounds right now, OMERS 32%, USS 20%, Infinity Investments SA 10%, is out of date. It describes the 2023 equity structure of Kemble Water Holdings, the pension fund consortium that owned Thames Water's parent company.

It sometimes beggars belief how stupid supposedly clever people can be. The American VC funds now running Thames Water are trumpeting the former CEO of Yorkshire Water as the saviour of the company.

Really? During and following Liz Barber's spell as CEO of Yorkshire Water the company has,

* "loaned" £940 million, of bill payers money I suspect, to the company's Hong Kong owners, without telling the regulator.

* Is now in such financial peril that it is on Ofwat's "Enhanced concern", list.

* Is £7.5 billion in debt.

* Is putting up customers bills by 41%.

* Leaks about 98 billion litres of water per year.

* Was fined £40 million last year for illegally dumping sewage.

* And since 2020 has spent a total of 2,459,367 hours dumping sewage into our rivers and onto our beaches.

* Oh and Liz was paid £1.3 million the last year she worked for the company.

And all of that is supposed to make us feel better but Thames Water?

Would that be the same Liz Barber who put up customer's bills by 41% and then refused to give up her own bonus? Of course it would.

Liz Barber was paid £1.32 million in her final year as CEO of Yorkshire Water.
