Recently entered my 7th decade. Definitely older but not necessarily wiser. Love bass pedals, whining guitar, sport & Morlands. No time for dogma or rudeness.
@BeverleyMoore10@Saints_Mike7167 Correct, and thank you. Despite what social media may indicate, Saints supporters will all have their own views on what happened and have acted no differently to those of any other club given the same
circumstances. It’s not as if we can just go and support another club!
@WheelieTiger@SouthamptonFC My immediate reaction when it first happened was that he would have to go, but I’m not privy to the full details. If people in football were routinely sacked for cheating however, there would be very few still employed!
@Benjaminbloom It was an incredibly stupid, and unnecessary, thing to do, and the club has been severely punished for it. Embarrassing! However, in a sport which tolerates, and even celebrates, cheating more than any other, I’m not sure why this is somehow deserving of additional penalties?
@SamMunnery@SimonPeach I’m surprised too as it happens, so I do get that. Eckert has undoubtedly made a huge mistake, but the calculation seems to be, rightly or wrongly, that he is a talented manager who is capable of getting us promotion next season, so why punish ourselves again?
@SimonPeach@SamMunnery Indeed. Interesting how the media are still after blood when it seems a majority within the game itself feel that the punishment already applied is excessive….
@Scottwilsonecho It’s interesting how this incident has touched a nerve in a sport which tolerates, and even celebrates, cheating more than any other. Routine stuff like diving, feigning injury, and financial transgressions resulting in huge ‘sporting advantage’ seems to be insignificant now?
@predofficial@henrywinter It’s an interesting dilemma for the FA. In the overall context of a sport which tolerates, and even often lauds cheating as ‘clever play’, more than probably any other, is this relatively minor transgression the hill they will choose to die on?
@MarieannaONeill@untypicalboro The vast majority of supporters do not make comments on social media. Always bear in mind that on here you are only seeing the tiny fraction of opinions that the algorithm sends your way. We’re pretty much the same as any other fanbase in real life…..
