#PAAAPEarthDay Part 7:
@pa_aap Climate & Env. Health Committee Co-Chair @stephleemd wants you to know that you can celebrate #EarthDay by engaging with nature or taking a child in your life outside to experience nature!

AAP, joined by other leading medical groups, sent a letter today to @POTUS and @Secmayorkas raising concerns about the reinstatement of immigrant family detention. No amount of detention is safe for children. Read the letter: https://t.co/1AX2Zyiy1q
#DYK phasing out fossil fuels could prevent 3.6 million deaths annually worldwide due to ambient air pollution?
This is why health professionals are calling for #FossilFuelTreaty to protect current and future generations

Pediatricians will continue to work in our communities and at the state and federal levels to advocate for laws and regulations that ensure a healthy planet and healthy air for future generations. There is still more work that can be done. We will not give up. 4/4
Every child should have the right to breathe clean air. To ensure that right, our federal government must be able to pass regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The decision will make it harder for that to happen now and harder for regulations to pass in the future. 3/4
Fossil fuel-fired power plants are a leading contributor to climate change, which is why EPA's role limiting air pollution is so vital to the health of children and our planet. The Supreme Court's decision makes it harder for EPA to do its job. 2/4
Though it may have not been featured as prominently in the headlines, last week's Supreme Court decision in West Virginia vs. EPA will have major consequences for children's health. 1/4
Being shot by a patient who is having post-operative pain, or for refusing to prescribe narcotics is not a risk I considered when deciding to go into orthopaedic surgery. ‘No good deed goes unpunished’ is taking on another level of meaning. #MedTwitter#orthotwitter#GunReformNow
The fact that the Tulsa shooter was able to purchase an AR-15-style rifle yesterday afternoon and then use it to murder four people a few hours later underscores how deeply broken our nation’s gun safety and background check laws are. Something must change.
A few weeks ago we published this piece @PhillyInquirer about the impact of #GunViolence on our Hospitals.
Tonight we are hearing of yet another senseless tragedy at a Hospital in #Tulsa.
Hospitals should be places of Hope, not Fear!

Bottom line: If you can't get the formula you need for your baby, call your pediatrician. They may have free samples and can advise on safe alternatives. The @WhiteHouse also just announced steps to help increase supply. This is scary, stressful for families. We are here to help.
AAP does NOT recommend juice or tea for babies, as some recipes have shown. Offering water to babies, or diluting formula with water, can also be dangerous, leading to less nutritional content and more potential risks of contamination. Serious health problems can result.
Even if it seems like they have enough from the label, the chemical forms of the nutrition may not be easily absorbed by the baby’s body. Or, certain ingredients may affect each other (such as calcium and phosphorus) in ways that is not ideal for things like bone growth.
And regular dairy products like cow milk or alternatives such as soy, hemp, or almond milk are not designed with the right amount of important nutrition sources including protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins that a baby under 6 months of age needs.
Formula mixtures made from online or other resources may not have vital components, such as enough iron or vitamins for a baby. Or, they may have too much salt or other nutrients that your baby's kidneys and liver cannot handle in large amounts.
