Learning that Rob Reiner met his wife on the set of When Harry Met Sally and changed the final scene as a result of falling in love with her is simply too much for me right now.
A friendly reminder that the gala is to raise money for the Met Museum's Costume Institute. You can check out the new exhibit on Black Dandyism from May 10th until October. If you can't get to the Met in NYC, there's a new book showing the exhibit. It has some great essays.
As tomorrow’s #MetGala approaches, I would like to remind everyone that while the part you may be most familiar with is the red carpet event, the *actual* department the Met Gala funds is the unglamorous thing you don’t think about the other 364 days/year…the Costume Institute.
I also want to remind people that while what you see on the carpet is “just a dress” or “just a suit,” there are quite literally dozens of people behind its production. Dozens of highly trained, highly skilled artisans whose labor is not worthless just because you “hate fashion.”
Despicable. As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch.
President Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again.
Many of these people simply want to be patted on the back for wearing a tailored jacket, even if the outfit is ugly. They want people to think they're sophisticated, masculine, reverent of traditions, etc. The goal is to tell you that they're better than hoi polloi.
There’s a conversation floating around today regarding literacy and access and I cannot stress enough that everything cannot be wrapped up in a quippy zine or short form TikTok or video essay or tweet thread. Complex ideas require time to express AND comprehend.
Anyway, it’s worth pointing out that this disaffected attitude is what people look for when they’re grooming people for radicalization. They need their targets to feel hopeless and useless but, in time, part of something greater. Guys like this are easy marks. They need help.
