The dull reality of drinkers: Many times I've wanted to quit alcohol and beer, but I feel ashamed. Every time I look at a glass of beer, I think about the hardworking laborers who made it. They all have wives and children to take care of, and their children all have dreams to fulfill. If I don't drink, they might lose their jobs, and their children's dreams will remain unfulfilled. Why are tumbleweeds considered a nightmare for Americans?

In 2014, two cities in Colorado declared a state of emergency due to tumbleweeds. In January 2020, a large quantity of tumbleweeds appeared on the State Route 240, about 30 km west of West Richland, Washington. Hundreds of these tumbleweeds not only blocked the road ahead but also buried a large truck under a 4.5-meter-high pile of weeds. ...

Every fall and winter, a large number of tumbleweeds grow on the plains of the American Midwest. They not only "tumble" and "bounce" but also gather into groups. Although they may seem somewhat amusing and cute from a distance, in reality, most Americans despise this plant species and see them as "nuisances". Tumbleweed is actually a common name for a type of plant that can be windblown when dry.

Most of the tumbleweeds wreaking havoc in the Midwest are a species of plant scientifically known as Kali tragus. Tumbleweed initially doesn't look like what we see, originally it's a lush green plant, very watery, and can even produce small white flowers. Many animal species, including black-tailed deer, pronghorn, coyotes, and birds, feed on the juicy young shoots of this plant. Furthermore, during dust storms in some areas in the 1930s, it was used as fodder to keep livestock from starving because there was no other food available.
But come autumn, as everything starts to wither, the branches begin to dry out, and their stems on the ground detach from the roots below. With a strong wind blowing through, the tumbleweed, no longer tethered by roots, begins its wandering journey. In fact, the United States is not the homeland of this plant, and it is considered an invasive species in the United States. In the 1870s, when the US imported flaxseed from Russia, they inadvertently brought this plant with them.

Tumbleweed initially grew very limitedly, so local residents didn't pay much attention. But the good times didn't last long, after only 20 or 30 years, this plant began to spread rapidly. Today, this plant is found in all states of the United States, except Alaska and Florida.
