New paper demonstrating local coupled learning rules, this time in mechanical spring networks. Really nice experiments by Lauren Altman at Penn!

@doescience@Penn In fact, this system performs both computation and learning in the analog domain, further saving energy on expensive conversions.
A digital computer is only used to supply inputs and read outputs, but even this may not be necessary in future versions of learning machines.
Paper on our new nonlinear physical learning machine is out. Great work by Sam Dillavou and Benjamin Beyer in making it happen!

I am delighted to announce I'll be starting a group at AMOLF this summer to study the physics of learning.
We'd like to figure out how physical system can learn on their own, and what happens to them when they do.
PhD and postdoc positions available!

"Soft Matter - Concepts, Phenomena & Applications" is out, the wonderful new textbook by Wim van Saarloos, Vincenzo Vitelli & Zorana Zeravcic. https://t.co/LmfSMDQMXP The book is the ultimate answer to those confronted with the question of how to teach Soft Matter. A Master Piece
1/ Can we study mechanics of biological tissues through the lens of physical learning?
We've investigated how epithelial tissues become fluid through spatial correlations in their cellular properties. See our preprint at: https://t.co/DrXquaQQUx
We are looking for a new colleague! 🥳Are you an experimentalist doing cutting-edge soft matter research? And do you want to start your own group in a stimulating environment? 👉Apply now: https://t.co/4nrSzFnqF8
📢Today at #APSMarchMeeting, join our exciting invited session on Autonomous learning machines (https://t.co/loiXwKJwZU), 3PM \ Auditorium 1, for excellent talks on the physics of learning @APSphysics @ApsGsnp @ApsDsoft@ApsDbio@APSDataScience
*Computing with Physical Systems*: For those who weren't able to join us in Aspen in January, the invited speaker videos (and some slides) are now available at https://t.co/O8mMDBIu9O - thanks again to everyone who participated! 1/
I'd like to thank the sponsoring APS units, @ApsGsnp @ApsDsoft@ApsDbio@APSDataScience.
The session will also be live streamed for all conference participants.
Looking forward to #APSmarchmeeting, Minneapolis next week!
This time we have an amazing invited symposium lined up on Tuesday: K43 - Autonomous Learning Machines (https://t.co/loiXwKK4Ps). Come and hear the latest research on physical machines that learn on their own!
