Congratulations to @sterrettJD for getting a poster award at @FRMicrobiome and to Madi Apgar for successfully defending her Master's degree thesis. So proud of you both. @LozuponeLab
Absolutely wild, first female finisher in the 38-year history of the race, and one of 20 finishers *ever*, with < 2 min to spare over the course of 60 hours!
Excited to announce a new paper published in mSystems, in joint first-authorship with @iconicomics (Chris), titled "Poly-omic risk scores predict inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis"!

@BioFrontiers@CUBoulder Most of all, I'm grateful to have been able to work with this team. @MagStanislawski and Luke were fantastic mentors, and @BioFrontiers supported us throughout the process. @CathyLozupone put up with me neglecting some of my other projects to get this one out the door :)

@BioFrontiers@CUBoulder Hopefully this paper can lay some groundwork for Chris, Maggie, Luke and me to continue addressing unresolved questions in multi-omic integration for complex traits. I'm particularly excited about pulling in knowledge graphs and some fun causal inference techniques in the future!
Fantastic set of papers by @Thomazsan! I've been recommending these to any researchers new to microbiome analysis, and they've sparked lots of great conversation and collaboration with Thomaz about causal inference in microbiome research
Bioinformatics meets the gut-brain axis
Really proud of our postdoc bioinformatician @Thomazsan who led these papers in @NatMentHealth with Thom Quinn & @MBmicrobiome
"Bugs as features: concepts and foundations for the compositional data analysis of the microbiome–gut–brain axis"
gave a *highly* technical talk about the host-microbiome dual transcriptome and gut-brain axis tonight for the @BioFrontiers Institute UpGoer 5 competition. full slide deck attached to this tweet
I spent several months earlier this year investigating "precision nutrition" microbiome company Viome and its colorful founder, only for both scientists and former employees to share some shocking revelations.

@CathyLozupone@CALowryPhD@Pio_Soto Another fantastic person - Dr. Bavesh Kana. We had some great chats about Mycobacteria but more importantly about life. I walked away from every conversation feeling better about the world knowing that people like Bavesh are in our community
So grateful for the past 2 weeks at the @SymbNET PhD summer school on host-microbe symbiosis! Blown away by everyone's kindness and generosity, as well as the incredible resources that went into making this happen. Lots of new friends and great science :)
@CathyLozupone@CALowryPhD And I was really fortunate to room with and get a chance to know @Pio_Soto! Hoping to see you up in Boulder for a postdoc in a year or so 🦎 🦠
