Probably because in 2010s a group of clubs put in place self serving rules that meant even where a club qualified into the CL, won the EL and then qualified again into the CL (all with a wage bill 30% off the top teams) it’s still forced to sell their best player to the Champions
Rob Edwards first heard of his #Wolves sacking after members of his family saw rumours of Cesar Peixoto's appointment on social media and Edwards called the club to ask about the rumours.

🎙️ “What do you still want to achieve at Aston Villa, and what other challenges remain for the future?”
🗣️ “I have a very personal rule: I want to be wanted where I am first, because that’s where you are best understood. At Aston Villa we are in a process of evolution with significant improvement, which makes me feel valued, and the club is also willing to take steps to get better every year. I feel satisfied.”

Villa just finished a 56 game season winning a Europa league title and finishing 4th in the PL . In contrast Man U played 40 games won nothing and finished 6 point ahead in 3rd. Michael Carrick managed 18 of those PL games and is nominated for manager of the season and Unai not.
Unai winning a Europa league and top 4 finish with a tiny squad and a poor bench? Manager of the season for sure! Then we have spurs players and fans celebrating staying in league. Embarrassing see you at 6am for my say on a lot 👊🏾💆🏽♂️🫣👍🏾

Last night highlighted what a huge club Aston Villa are. They know that, of course. But it was a reminder to those tuning in from around the world the size of the club, the passionate fanbase, the quality of coach and players, and all by joyous royal approval, too. #AVFC
One more reflection on last night and 24 hours in Istanbul. It’s been really striking how many ex-Villa players - from 82, 94, 96 and later on - are out here and how passionate they remain about the club. The 2026 players will be welcomed as royalty on any Villa trip for the rest of their lives now.
Villa spent €36m in the summer just gone & Freiburg spent €32m
7 players that started for Villa tonight were already at the club when Emery arrived and were in a relegation battle.
One thing we’re not going to do is act like Villa bought this Europa League title.
Turns out Emi Martinez broke his finger in the warm up tonight and played on. It was clear watching the warm up there was a problem but never thought it was this serious.
