@adipullenLNER Because of their length known as 'skittle alleys'. 'City of Ripon' later rebuilt with a Gresley boiler. Original nameplate of 2400 on display at Locomotion.
@adipullenLNER Perhaps @TPExpressTrains might like to look at this and wonder why passengers complain of serious overcrowding and lack of facilities on their trains.
@AntCoulls@steam_museum @DrOliBetts Very different to when I visited and saw the last 9Fs under construction, including 92212 which I drove on the Great Central - full circle!
My #painting of 'Princess Arthur of Connaught', which will be displayed as part of my #exhibition at Crown Street Gallery, #Darlington until the beginning of November. I will be painting there most Fridays and welcome fellow enthusiasts to come and chat. #railways#art#Stanier
@adipullenLNER@hornby The second set were fitted after the softer exhaust of the different valve gear caused visibility problems for the driver. Both single and double are correct for different LNER periods. Both 2001 and 2002 were later modified to the 'Bugatti' front end.
@AntCoulls@RailwayMuseum I attended a weeklong course at Crewe on the first week when electrics ran from Euston to Crewe. We visited Stoke shed, Marshmoor Yards, the box at Nuneaton along with talks ( including one by George Dow) travelling behind the new motive power. Perhaps a painting of the original?
Having been away I am currently catching up with #Countdown . Interested to see the word 'gricer' as an option given, defined as a railway enthusiast. Where did this term come from? @susie_dent
