🚨 Urgent information and support for Canadians given the serious situation in Mexico.

Canadians in or near Puerto Vallarta -- along with several other areas -- are asked to shelter in place, maintain a low profile, monitor local media and follow advice of local authorities, including any shelter-in-place orders.

Canadians in Mexico should register as a Canadian Abroad at: https://t.co/xHEXKdOVLR. This is a free service which allows the Government of Canada to notify you in case of an emergency at your destination or a personal emergency here at home. You'll also receive important information before or during natural disasters or civil unrest.

Global Affairs Canada warns that serious violence continues to escalate in Jalisco state as criminal groups have set up roadblocks with burning vehicles in several cities. There have been shootouts with Mexican security forces and explosions.

✈️ Air Canada and WestJet (including Sunwing) have cancelled flights to and from Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Manzanillo. U.S. carriers, including United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines, have also announced cancellations.

Importantly, violence is also being reported this evening in several areas beyond Jalisco State including: Baja California State (including Tijuana, Tecate, and Ensenada), Quintana Roo State (including Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum), and areas of Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas States.
